Cairo Elementary School has named Mrs. Rhonda Wilson as interim principal for the 2023-2024 school year. Wilson will replace the current school principal Brooke Shappell, who will be leaving at the close of the 2022-23 school year.
Mrs. Wilson is currently the Instructional Coach for Cairo, and she has been an educator with Henderson County Schools since 1998.
Mrs. Wilson received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Ball State University and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Murray State University.
On being named the Interim Principal, Mrs. Wilson noted, “I am honored to serve the Cairo community - students, families, and staff - and Henderson County Schools as the interim principal of Cairo Elementary School. I have loved being a part of the Cairo family for the past several years and I am excited for the future!”
In a statement, Dr. Bob Lawson, Superintendent of Henderson County Schools, said, "We are pleased to announce Mrs. Wilson as Interim Principal of Cairo Elementary School. Beyond her exemplary teaching career, Mrs. Wilson also embodies the values and brand of Cairo Elementary School and Henderson County Schools both professionally and personally. I am confident that she will continue to pursue excellence and support the high level of student achievement and success at Cairo Elementary.”
Mrs. Wilson and her husband, Scott, have two children and live in Henderson.
There is no set timeline to resume the principal search at this time.
