On Friday, November 18th, Henderson County FFA won the state Veterinary Science contest for the second year in a row at Murray State University. Team members, each enrolled in the Animal Science pathway at Henderson County High School, were Austin McHatton, Sierra Williams, Madelyn Bennett, and Clayton McHatton. Madelyn Bennett was the overall high-scoring individual at the contest.
In order to prepare for the contest, students learned how to demonstrate 30 clinical procedures and handling restraint techniques for small and large animals. They also must be able to identify nearly 350 pieces of medical equipment, internal/external parasites, and animal breeds. The final portion of the contest consists of a general knowledge examination and a math practicum.
Students competed against 33 teams from across the state. They will now advance to represent Kentucky at the 2023 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
