Transportation

The Henderson County Schools Transportation Department runs 77 daily bus routes carrying 3,800+ students over 440 square miles twice a day.  The department logs over 1 million miles per year.

A few important reminders:

  1. For students who are walkers it is important to stay alert and avoid distracted walking. Parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation and/or a walking option for students who live within one mile of their school.

  2.    We encourage parents/ guardians to accompany their child to the bus whenever possible.  It is required for parents/designees (18 years of age or older and not enrolled in HCS) of kindergarten students to be present and visible to the driver during the pick up and drop off of students. It is required for parents/guardians of preschool students to be hand to hand exchange for pick up and drop off, as well as provide their students respective security code.

  3. To ensure your child does not miss the bus, students must  be physically standing outside on the sidewalk or at the stop at least five (5) minutes before the designated pick up time. Our drivers are unable to stop or wait for students who are not present at the stop.

  4. Transportation will not be provided for students who are attending school outside of their assigned district. Example: student attends Cairo but lives in A.B. Chandler district.

  5. In the unfortunate event your child misses the bus in the morning we are unable to return to pick up your student(s). At this point, transportation will need to be provided by parents/guardians to school. If your child misses the bus in the afternoon, parents/guardians will need to make arrangements to pick their child up at school. If the student missed the bus due to educational reasons (i.e. tutoring) the school will contact parent/guardian with transportation details.

  6. Students must have an official signed note from the school with the date and the address if they are to occasionally ride to a location other than their primary address.

  7. Student conduct on school buses can be found in the Student Code of Conduct. Please review with your child. If you have any questions or need assistance please contact the Transportation Department at 270-831-5120

  8. For the safety of our students & drivers, buses are unable to enter cul-de-sacs areas. Students will be picked up at their designated stops.

  9. As an added safety measure, we are very fortunate to have security cameras installed on all of our buses and new buses are equipped with stop arm cameras.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to the safety of our students and staff. We truly appreciate your partnership.
